This section contains 38 questions to be completed in 55 minutes. These questions are often more complex and may involve multiple steps, data interpretation, or modeling where a calculator is a useful tool.
What Are Math Sub-scores?
The College Board provides sub-scores (on a scale of 1-15) to give you a more detailed look at your strengths and weaknesses across different mathematical domains.
Heart of Algebra
Focuses on linear equations, systems of linear equations, and linear functions. This is the foundational algebra content on the test.
Problem Solving & Data Analysis
Tests your ability to work with rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret data from tables, charts, and graphs.
Passport to Advanced Math
Covers more complex topics, including quadratic equations, exponential functions, and other non-linear expressions that are prerequisites for advanced math.
Frequently Asked Questions
Get quick answers to common questions about your Math SAT score and how this calculator works.
How are my raw scores converted to a 200-800 scaled score?
The College Board uses a process called "equating" to create a unique conversion table for each official SAT test date. This adjusts for minor variations in difficulty between different tests. Our calculator uses a representative, non-linear conversion curve that provides a highly accurate estimate of your scaled score based on your total number of correct answers (your raw score).
Are the sub-scores on this calculator official?
The sub-scores provided by our tool are estimates. They are calculated by proportionally distributing your total raw score across the three main content categories based on the typical structure of an SAT Math test. They provide a valuable directional insight into your potential strengths and weaknesses but may differ slightly from your official report.
What's a good SAT Math score for STEM programs?
For competitive Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) programs, admissions committees place a heavy emphasis on the Math section score. While it varies by university, a score of 700 or higher is often considered strong for these programs, with top-tier universities frequently seeing applicants with scores of 750 and above.
