How to Convert Your Grades
Our tool makes it simple to convert your percentage grades into a standard GPA. Here’s how to do it.
Add Your Courses
Click "+ Add Course" for each class. Enter the percentage grade you received and the number of credits the class was worth.
Select GPA Scale
Use the toggle to choose the GPA scale your school uses (most common is 4.0, but some use 5.0 for weighted classes).
Calculate & Analyze
Click "Calculate GPA" to instantly see your weighted and unweighted GPA, along with a performance indicator.
Weighted vs. Unweighted GPA
This calculator shows you two important GPA numbers. Understanding the difference is key to assessing your academic standing.
Weighted GPA
This is the most common GPA calculation method in college. It takes the number of credits for each course into account. A good grade in a 4-credit class will have more impact on your GPA than the same grade in a 1-credit class. It reflects not just your grades, but the rigor of your course load.
Unweighted GPA
This calculation gives every class equal importance, regardless of its credit value. It's a simple average of all your course GPAs. While less common for official transcripts, it can be a useful way to see your "pure" grade average without the influence of credit hours.
Converter Features
We designed this tool to be powerful, flexible, and insightful.
Dual Scale Support
Easily switch between a 4.0 and 5.0 GPA scale to match the system used by your institution.
Credit-Weighted Logic
Accurately calculates your official weighted GPA by factoring in the credit hours for each course.
Performance Indicator
Get instant feedback on your performance with a dynamic status that tells you if your GPA is Excellent, Good, or Needs Improvement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Get quick answers to common questions about converting your percentage grades to a GPA.
Why does this calculator use a default of 1 credit if I leave it blank?
To calculate a simple, unweighted average (where all classes are treated equally), each course needs to have some credit value. Using a default of 1 credit for any blank entries ensures that those courses are still included in the calculation, giving you an accurate unweighted GPA even if you don't know the specific credit hours.
Do all schools use the same percentage-to-GPA conversion?
No, conversion scales can vary slightly between institutions. Our calculator uses a widely accepted standard scale (e.g., 93%+ = 4.0, 90-92% = 3.7, etc.). While this provides a very accurate estimate for most schools, you should always refer to your specific school's official grading policy for the exact conversion they use.
When should I use the 5.0 scale?
The 5.0 scale is typically used in high schools to calculate a weighted GPA, where advanced courses like Honors, AP, or IB are given extra weight. An 'A' in an AP class might be worth 5.0 points instead of the standard 4.0. Most colleges and universities, however, use a standard 4.0 scale for all courses.
